Kids’ Chance of Delaware, Inc.
Kids’ Chance of Delaware is a member of Kids' Chance of America, a national non-profit organization that was created for the purpose of supporting and providing educational opportunities and scholarships for the children of workers who were fatally or catastrophically injured on the job. These workers can no longer earn an income to support post-secondary educational opportunities for their children beyond high school and will need additional assistance.

✦ Fatal work injuries totaled 18 in 2019 for Delaware, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Regional Commissioner Alexandra Hall Bovee noted that the number of work-related fatalities in Delaware was up from the previous year. Fatal occupational injuries in the state have ranged from a high of 18 in 1996 and 2019 to a low of 7 in 2009 and 2018.
✦ Nationwide, a total of 5,333 fatal work injuries were recorded in 2019, a 2 percent increase from the 5,250 in 2018
✦ In Delaware, transportation incidents resulted in seven fatal work injuries. Exposure to harmful substances or environments and contact with objects and equipment each resulted in four fatalities.
✦ Nationally, transportation incidents were the most frequent fatal workplace event in 2019, accounting for 40 percent of fatal work injuries.
✦ The average cost of college* in the United States is $35,720 per student per year. The cost has tripled in 20 years, with an annual growth rate of 6.8%.
✦ The average student loan debt is $37,584.
